Shared space

Shared space is an urban design approach, by removing features such as kerbs, road surface markings, traffic signs, and traffic lights minimises the segregation.The origin of term is generally linked with the work of Dutch traffic engineer Hans Monderman, been widely applied, especially by Ben Hamilton-Baillie, The European Shared Space project developed new policies and methods for the design of public spaces with streets between 2004 and 2008 under the leadership of Hans Monderman.

Open plan is the generic term used in architectural and interior design, The term can also refer to landscaping , in which there are no defined property boundaries.

Open office

The first of these open offices were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1906. It was based on the open plan of factories. The purpose: creating a lot of space utilization give managers the ability to keep an eye on the staff.

Advantage:

Disadvantage

noise& less Productivity

The noise level in open-plan offices greatly reduces productivity, which drops to one third relative to what it would be in quiet rooms.

For different people

silence is important for: Introverts are not good at handling sensory stimulation for too long as they need to get away from it to recharge. The work that requires a lot of thinking such as software development

open space is important for: Extroverts need sensory stimulation to keep them awake an going. This setup may be good for 24 hour news channels and stock markets. Extroverts thrive on the "collaborativeness" of the open-office environment, while Introverts are the one with headphones on, trying to get some work done in the noise.

Goal

The office environment has to adapt to the needs of different groups and balance the need for collaboration with the need for privacy and quiet.
